What is Backroom Comedy Club?
A stand-up comedy club in a basement speakeasy at 814 Bloor St W in Toronto, between Christie and Ossington stations. Comedians Brandon Sobel and Ariel Kagan opened it in 2022. Shows are New York style: more comics doing shorter sets, with a host keeping it moving.
When are the shows?
Pro Shows run Wednesday to Saturday at 8 PM and 10 PM. Sunday at 8 PM is New Material Night, where you hear the jokes before anyone else does. Happy hour open mics run Wednesday and Friday at 6 PM, Saturday at 4:30 PM and Sunday at 10 PM. We’re closed Monday and Tuesday. Dates change around holidays, so check Showtimes.
How much are tickets?
Pro Shows are $22.50 on Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday, and $24.35 on Friday and Saturday. Happy hour open mics are $11.30, and the Sunday 10 PM Feedback open mic is $20.34. Headliner and special shows are priced on their own pages.
Are there booking fees?
No. Prices on our website are all-in: HST included, no booking fees.
Are there any deals?
Yes. The Wednesday and Thursday 10 PM Pro Shows are half price with code LATENIGHT (see Late Show). Student, date night and group deals are on our Promotions page.
Who’s performing tonight?
On our weekly Pro Shows the lineup is a surprise. It comes together on the night: a stacked run of Toronto’s best stand-ups, plus the odd drop-in. Headliner shows name the comic on the show page.
What kind of comedy is it?
Uncensored stand-up. Comics have creative freedom, so some material gets dark or edgy. If your group needs a clean, work-friendly show, book a private show and tell us.
Is there a bar?
Yes, the bar is right in the room: craft beer, shooters, cocktails and mocktails.
How do I get there?
We’re at 814 Bloor St W, basement unit, Toronto ON M6G 1L9. Take Line 2 to Christie or Ossington station; we’re a short walk from either.
Can I bring a group or book a private show?
Yes. Bring a group to any Pro Show, or take over the whole room for up to 55 people. Tell us about it on our group and holiday party page and we’ll get back to you within a day.
Do you do anything for birthdays?
Yes. On Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday shows the birthday person gets in free with ID. Book 7 days ahead. Details on our Birthday Club page.
Do you sell gift cards?
Yes, you can buy a Backroom gift card online in our Store.
Can I get a refund?
Ticket sales are final. If we cancel a show and don’t reschedule it, you’re refunded automatically within 14 days. For emergencies, email [email protected] within 7 days of the show. Full details in our Refund Policy.
Can I try stand-up myself?
Yes. Come to one of our happy hour open mics, or take a class at Comedy Dojo, our stand-up school, and finish on the Backroom stage.
